COWtoPLANT is a LIFE+ European project developed with the aim of searching for new solutions for some of the environmental and economic current problems such as the final use or elimination of animal wastes and the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture. Looking for these new solutions in an environmentally-friendly and economical feasible way, several companies and institutions (ZURKO Reseach, CEBAS-CSIC, Alquimia Soluciones Ambientales and Abonos Orgánicos Pedrín) have joined their efforts in order to develop this project.

COWtoPLANT intends to demonstrate the economical and environmental feasibility of a new technology that decompounds category 3 animal wastes into peptides and other compounds that can be used in agriculture as bio-stimulants and/or bio-pesticides.

The main goals planned for COWtoPLANT project are:

  1. The development of a prototype based on new technologies, to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the transformation and elimination of the animal wastes with an environmental profit.
  2. Demonstration of the bio-stimulant and bio-pesticide effects of the bio-hydrolysed products on plants and soils.

COWtoPLANT will have a duration of 3 years. The activities started on 20th January 2009 and will finish on 19th January 2012.

The total budget of the project is 1.850.612 € and the financial contribution of the European Commission is 50% of the total eligible budget, which reaches the amount of 925.306 €.
